Empowering Women & Young People in Breyten

Planact’s work has extended to Breyten in Middelburg to address the needs and concerns of women and youth that are often overlooked.
The aim of the project is to capacitate rural women and youth living in mining towns in Mpumalanga to access their democratic rights in terms of the constitution within government systems.

This is done through the following ways:

  • Community Mobilisation
  • Activate community structures
  • Promote community engagement
During the first meeting, held at the Thusong Community Centre late last year, the councillors and the community representatives showed excitement at the prospect of working with Planact in the development of their community.

The meeting was attended by prominent members in community leadership including Ward Councillors, representatives from a number of community groups such as the civic centre, youth, ward representatives, CWP, Women and Children’s centre as well as ward street committees.
