Planact is currently assisting with the organisational development of the Aerotropolis Primary Housing Cooperative and simultaneously locating possible sites for pilot projects in Wattville.

One of the earmarked sites on Market Street in Boksburg has, unfortunately, been demolished in line with the Mayoral Clean City programme, which seeks to achieve a clean and green environment in order to prevent persistent decline of the City’s central business districts (CBDs).

The Housing Cooperative which commenced in April 2016, aims to assist residents of Wattville (5 founding partners) establish and operate a primary housing cooperative which will assist the residents of Ekurhuleni east access formal and affordable housing thereby supporting the municipality’s goal to reduce the existing housing backlog.

Aerotropolis will be a catalyst to mobilise home ownership saving schemes and will be the first housing co-operative to focus on consumer education and financial literacy, through educational workshops for low income house owners.
