On the 18th of June 2025, Planact hosted a multi-stakeholder dialogue with community representatives from the Cities of Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, and Johannesburg in Gauteng. The discussion aimed to gather insights and recommendations to inform the task team currently reviewing the White Paper on Local Government.
One of the challenges experienced at the local government level in South Africa is a disconnect between municipalities and the communities that they serve. Since its establishment in 1985, Planact has played the role of interlocutor, facilitating relationship management, consultation and participation at this interface between local government and the community.
Therefore, as we prepare to make a submission on the discussion document, the goal of this dialogue is to ensure that the White Paper on Local Government 2026 process benefits from Planact’s experience and expertise on opportunities to improve local development and human rights outcomes in vulnerable communities in South Africa.
