About Us

Planact is a non-profit organisation based in Johannesburg, dedicated to eliminating the exclusion of vulnerable communities from local government processes. To achieve this, Planact promotes municipal accountability to communities and advocates for the inclusion of vulnerable groups in local government policies, processes, and practices.

Established in 1985 as a voluntary association of professionals, Planact supported community organisations in advocating for alternative development plans during the apartheid regime. The organisation played a significant role in shaping local government and urban development in post-apartheid South Africa.
