SEF Impact: Food Security in Wattville
At Planact, we strive to promote and support sustainable livelihoods initiatives through our Social Employment Fund project. The SEF Food Security team in Wattville recently shared their knowledge and skills with Asha Lebogang Preschool students teaching them about planting and the importance of growing their own food.
Through Planact’s collaboration with Rand Water, the team was equipped with the tools and training that enabled them to establish sustainable food gardens.
Previously, the SEF Food Security team donated produce from their other gardens, including spinach, to Asha Lebogang Preschool. However, they decided to take it a step further to create a 6th garden at the Preschool, enabling the students to grow their own fresh vegetables. The students had hands-on experience planting onions, lettuce, and spinach while learning about the process. The teachers were excited with the initiative, which aimed to educate their students on sustainable food practices and healthy eating habits from an early age.
This initiative demonstrates the team’s commitment to empowering communities through sustainable food security and education. An accompanying video of Wattville Food Security team demonstrates the impact of this hands-on training.
